Colombo Delivery

A delivery game on Colombo’s real roads.

A browser game about delivering parcels on Colombo’s real roads. It begins on a bicycle near Lotus Tower, and it is honestly still a prototype.

  • Real Colombo roads
  • A bicycle you have to balance
  • Three practice jobs
  • Build your courier

The idea

I wanted a game that could only be set here: real Colombo streets, real coordinates, and a courier working their way up. The plan is a progression. You start on a bicycle, move to an electric bicycle and a motorbike, and eventually a car.

What is playable today

The current build gives you a bicycle you can actually ride, three generated practice jobs, earnings that are saved on your device, and a north-up minimap. It all happens in a warm, illustrated 900 × 900 metre slice of the city around Lotus Tower.

The part nobody sees: a study in movement

Most of the recent work is not in the game at all. It is a separate study covering a 1.8 × 1.8 kilometre district, with editable Blender scenes and a cyclist studio for getting movement right: walking, pedalling, and getting on and off the bicycle.

I review these the way I would review code, and I keep the record. The walking cycle has been approved. The pedalling track was approved earlier and is kept unchanged. The mounting and dismounting animations are ready for testing and not approved yet. Several earlier attempts at fitting the rider to the bicycle were rejected outright, and those are documented too.

Being straight about what it is not

These are bounded prototypes. The delivery markers and the way roads are presented have not passed the field checks I would need before claiming they represent safe or legal real-world routes, so I do not claim that.

I would rather a small thing be true than a big thing be impressive.

Where it stands

Incubating. It shares its city with Colombo Atlas, which is the calm version of the same streets.
